MTB Sport Does Eurobike

If it’s sick MTB gear and bikes you’re after then what better place to go than Eurobike. To finish up our time in Europe before heading back to Australia MTB Sport attended the Eurobike trade show held in Friedrichshaven Germany. Eurobike is a huge show with 1,350 exhibitors from 53 countries, that’s a lot of bikes and a lot of bike related products. As I am sure you can imagine there’s a lot of really cool mountain bikes and products to see, and of course there’re some outright bizarre products as well.

Eurobike wasn’t just about drooling over sick mountain bikes, we also had business to take care of. We managed to pin down the guys from Rocday to discuss the upcoming arrival of Rocday on Australian single tracks. We were stoked to get a sneak peak at the 2017 range of gloves, they really have taken their three models of mountain bike gloves to the next level. We can’t wait to see what they come up with for their new MTB jersey designs.

We also managed to get some other business relationships in the pipeline, it’s too soon to mention details but there’s some exciting news to come. We’re in the process of putting together an order with another great brand from Europe whose MTB gear will really complement what we already offer from Rocday. Watch this space!!!!

After business was taken care of we went window-shopping, like kids in a candy store. What really blew us away was the amount of e-bikes, we all know they’re on the rise and the technology is progressing quickly but we didn’t expect to see more e-bikes than conventional mountain bikes. We’re not completely sold on e-bikes, especially in the form of mountain bikes or even downhill versions like the one from Haibike in the pic. I guess as some people are saying, it’s less lazy making the climb back to the top of the trail on an e-bike than taking a lift.

Well Eurobike also had plenty of “old school” mountain bikes on display and some pretty sick ones at that. One of our favorite manufacturers is Canyon and the downhill Canyon Sender truly is a work of art. This sleek downhill shredder has amazing lines that really set it apart from other bikes. The Canyon Spectral is also a rad looking all-mountain trail tamer. We were surprised not to see the enduro Strive but according to the staff the 2016 model is so good they didn’t need to make any changes, I guess if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it.

As you would expect the stands for manufacturers such as YT, Yeti, Banshee, Evil Saracen, Pivot and Santa Cruz were also a mountain bike lover’s heavens to wander around. Even pimping components from the likes of Chromag, Crank Brother, HT and Renthal were displayed more like beautiful works of art rather than something you would thrash down your local trail.

As well as the bikes we also enjoyed seeing what was on offer from mountain bike helmet manufacturers, particularly in the way of helmets with removable chin guards. The Bell Super 2R has turned some heads on the trails over the last year so we new there would be some answers form their competitors at the show. Companies such as Leatt, Met and Uvex all had some cool designs but our favorite was the new Giro Switchblade.

We weren’t the only ones keen to check out the Switchblade, at the beginning of the show the Giro stand was packed with everyone trying to get their hands on the hyped new model from Giro. Apart from the awesome look of the Switchblade, the chin guard was easy to remove and re-attach while also feeling extremely strong. Most importantly the helmet is ASTM downhill certified as well as being certified to CPSC, EN-1078 and ASTM-1952-DH with and without the chin guard. Our only negative was that the helmet doesn’t look the best without the chin guard but the coverage it gives is outstanding, you would definitely feel well protected with or without the chin guard attached.

Well as you can see from the pictures there was plenty of mountain bike porn for any bike nuts like us to be satisfied with. We left the show very happy with the outcome of the meetings we had. It was now time to catch that long haul flight back to Australia, knuckle down and prepare for the arrival of some sweet MTB gear. With around five shipments arriving between October 2016 and February 2017 it’s going to be busy.

MTB Sport meet Rocday in Poland

In July 2016 MTB Sport made a trip to Poland to meet the team behind Rocday MTB apparel. For those of you who don’t know, Rocday are an exciting young Polish brand producing great looking and well-designed mountain bike clothes. Their range at the moment consists of a large range of jerseys, gloves and shorts. The gear suits any form of mountain bike riding from cross-country to enduro and downhill. Rocday were attending the Joyride Bike Festival at Kluszkowce bike park in the south of Poland where they had a retail site selling their quality mountain bike apparel. This turned out to be a great place to meet, as we made sure we arrived a day early to have some fun on the downhill tracks in the bikepark. It was great to be able to meet the Rocday team in person and to get our first look at their great biking gear. We already new we liked the look of their jerseys, gloves and shorts and this became even more apparent when we had the real thing in our hands. It was great to also see the quality of the products and the smaller details that add to the appeal of this unique brand. We could also see how much time and effort Rocday had put into selecting high quality fabrics to add to the strength and comfort of their products.

So after a day spent with the Rocday team we left very impressed and excited by their brand and the gear they have to offer. Most of all we were pumped that the wheels were now in motion for us to start working together and bring Rocday to Australia.

We were also lucky enough to leave Poland with a nice selection of Rocday gloves, jerseys and shorts to test. It was too long to wait until we were back in Australia so on our next stop in Sweden we found some nice single track and put our new riding gear to the test.

The combination of the blue Evo Gloves with the black Evo Jersey and blue Roc Lite Shorts really popped and we were more than impressed with the look. After a couple of hours shredding trails we were stoked with the comfort and feel of our new Rocday riding gear. Even when we were fully stretched out in our riding position going down the steepest part of the trail the jersey and shorts still fit perfectly and covered everywhere they were meant to.

The guys from Rocday really are passionate about mountain biking and this shows in the clothes they produce. After years of riding they have not only designed mountain bike clothes that look awesome but that also really feel great to ride in. We’re stoked to be able to offer the Rocday range to mountain bike riders in Australia.
